The project team worked to address The Motley Fool’s need for an adaptable workspace, realizing
customization and individualization were essential, especially with team members spread across multiple
time zones. There was not a “one-size fits all” solution to the evolving digital & physical working landscape.
Providing choice is an important component to their culture and this needed to align with the space.
The design team worked together to understand the technical needs of the client, while drawing inspiration
from the local environment to inform the finish of the space. Insights were provided through virtual design
charettes as the team created a mood for the space that aligned with its locale. Peaked forms appear in the
flooring, wall tile, ceiling baffles, and abstracted nature wallcoverings, which emulate Colorado landscapes
– an important backdrop for The Motley Fool’s active team. The fit and finish of the space aligns with The
Motley Fool’s whimsical persona – they do not take themselves too seriously, and the palette reflects this
playful culture. The impetus was to create a smarter, happier, and richer space offering a fresh take on
investing. Approachable design is showcased, serving the individual needs of employees – the sole target
audience. Bold applications of color and texture are implemented amongst dynamic architectural forms.
The primary palette is accented with pops of magenta trim – seldom used but strategically placed as an
unexpected use of their brand colors that reinforces this lively nature.
The Motley Fool’s name is a Shakespeare reference, in homage to the court jester, who can speak freely,
never afraid to challenge norms or question conventional wisdom. Similarly, these Motley Fools believe
people should have the ability to explore their passion. The design of their Denver space follows this
direction, embodying the organization’s dedication towards enrichment and empowerment, with a decidedly
energetic flair. The outcome is an entirely free-address workspace supporting complete mobility and choice
of atmosphere, highlighted with generously implemented pops of color and texture.
